The Guesthouse is a building on Rokkenjima used to house the visiting members of the Ushiromiya family during the annual family conferences. Its formal name is Toraian (渡来庵?), meaning "Visitor's Retreat".

It was originally constructed in 1984 as a hotel, and was part of Krauss's business plan to turn the island into a resort. Due to the failure of this plan, it was repurposed as a guesthouse for the Ushiromiya family. The building is a few minutes' distance from the main mansion.

Description Edit

Kyu-Furukawa Gardens

The Kyu-Furukawa Gardens, basis of the guesthouse exterior.

The guesthouse is built in a Western-style and overlooks the rose garden. It is identifiable by its dark brown to black brick walls, in contrast to the main mansion's light brown bricks. The windows of the guesthouse also have prominent white frames. The guesthouse has two floors and a balcony on both its front and side entrances, though the front entrance balcony does not jut out of the building.

All rooms may be unlocked with a master key, and also have their own individual room keys. The front door of the guesthouse may be secured with a chain lock, and the windows also contain shutters that can block any entry from the outside.

The external design of the guesthouse is based on the Kyu-Furukawa Gardens in Tokyo[1]. The interior rooms and corridors are based primarily on Bluff No. 18 House in Yokohama[2], though a handful of pictures are taken from Berrick Hall, also in Yokohama[3].

Layout Edit

First Floor Edit

A large area containing several tables and chairs for guests to relax in. It is visible from the entrance but is slightly further into the building.

Servant Room

A room serving as the information and resting area for the servants.

A room containing many miscellaneous books owned by Kinzo that had been pushed out of his study to make way for his occult hobby.

Second Floor Edit

Cousin Room

The cousin room is a larger guest room where Jessica, George, Battler, and Maria relax and sleep during the 1986 family conference. It was specifically prepared that year under orders from Jessica due to her desire to spend time with them late into the night.

Guest Rooms

There are several other guest rooms where other members of the family are meant to sleep, though they do not always do so due to the prolonged discussions of the family conference. All guest rooms contain chain locks for additional security.
